TL;DR

Breadcrumbs is a macOS app for archival research that tracks files and embeds the source URL and (optionally) page content directly into the file’s metadata. It also supports scanning webpages for embedded media, batch file renaming, metadata-driven search, and some additional AI features.

How It Works

• You configure a specific folder to watch.
• When a supported file is downloaded into that folder, the app automatically reads your web browser’s address bar to pull the source URL.
• You can enable web page content scraping when downloading files.
• You can scan a webpage for embedded media when there's no direct download link available.

Install

Unzip, move to your Applications folder, and right-click Open. It will appear in your menu bar.
